Artists
Bryony Ella
Bryony Ella is Digital Black Dance Ecologies first Commissioned Artist for our first seed commission in collaboration with Antoine Marc, MilkIt Studio and our partner, the Royal Geographical Society.
Bryony Ella is an interdisciplinary artist of British and Trinidadian heritage, who creates paintings, ‘wild drawings’ and public art installations that reimagine our relationship to nature, often developed through collaborations with academics and activists. She has a BA in Fine Art from Bath Spa University and an MA in Museology from the University of East Anglia, with a background curating social history and science exhibitions across the UK.
Her work sits somewhere in the liminal space between science and spirituality, and is inspired by the rich concept of embodied ecology, prompting questions around what it feels like to belong in nature, on which she recently wrote in ‘Wild Service: Why Nature Needs You’ (Bloomsbury publishing). Recent international artist research and public realm projects have involved organisations such as the UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology, Queens College CUNY, New York, COCO Dance Festival, Trinidad, British Council Americas, and the Grantham Institute – Climate and the Environment at Imperial College London.
Imaginal Cells: The Colour of Transformation will be premiered at the Royal Geographical Society’s Annual Conference 2024 on Friday 30th August 2024.
